Monika Huber's most recent works consist of strips of linen sewn together and combined with paint and plexiglass. In these glass pictures the painting itself exists on different levels. And as a result spaces are created where none in fact exist. In the new glass works the colour red is not essential. Some are black and white only, or blue and black, or magenta coloured, etc. The coloured shapes continue outside the picture, in another reality, in our imagination. And if we extend these forms, there easily emerges the ribbon of the meander, that pattern from antiquity named after the river winding its way through areas then inhabited by the Ionians and Phrygians and today a part of Turkey. |
